Song Cover Competition

Posted on September 19, 2021

Date: 18 September 2021

Time: 8:00 am – 12:00 am

Venue: Microsoft Teams

The PCGHS Harmonica Band have been practicing concert ensemble songs for the past few months, and it’s time to welcome something new. Yesterday, our form 3 students announced that they hold a harmonica song cover competition for all form 1 and form 2 members.

After familiarising the rules, everyone met with group members in their respective rooms to choose a song for the cover and discuss the section list. Meanwhile, the other form 3, form 4s were there to guide them throughout the whole session as the form 5 students had to stop attending our harmonica practice since August to prepare for their SPM exams.

This group project benefits them very much as they learn to collab with different people. We look forward to their final product.

Everyone talks about today’s progress after leaving their rooms as usual.

Training Camp

Posted on May 29, 2021

Date: 22 May 2021

Time: 8:00 am – 5:00 pm

Venue: Microsoft Teams

After resuming our practice for two weeks, the PCGHS Harmonica Band had organized a training camp with the CLHS Harmonica Band as our guest to let both harmonica band members get to know each other. The object of this training camp was to enhance the relationship among members and at the same time to relax our members from some upcoming exams.

We played a variety of station games to earn marks and clues for the following link race. Meantime, the mafias hiding in each group did their missions to gain points for the mafias group. The stationers did a great job conducting the game session. Hence, everyone had a fun time playing the station games. After our lunch break, all the members then proceed to stations that required playing with their harmonica. In these stations, members will compete with other groups on harmonica scales, sight-read, and converting staff into numbered musical notation skills.

We went to respective rooms for link race discussions with group members after playing all the station games. The link race was fascinating. It requires group members to work together and proceed from one stage to another. However, groups that faced obstacles can use their marks accumulated for the exchange of more clues. Those that found out the final google meet link then told the correct keywords to the game organizers earned for their total score.

In the end, the mafias group that gained the most points won. All members that participated in this training camp won points for their leaderboard ranking. This training camp was a great success as everyone had a lot of fun time joining the whole day program.
