Ah, nothing really quite beats good old practice after a couple of months of non-stop studying. Today was our first practice after a long hiatus for all members and the beginning of intensive training for our upcoming concert that is titled ‘Silver Screen’. Today we revisited an old classic called ‘Canon in D’, and learnt a new piece called ‘Try Everything that is one of the songs found on the soundtrack of the film ‘Zootopia’. This piece was especially tricky for the newer members as it incorporates a lot of syncopation as well as dotted rhythms. However, the coach swooped in and explained the foundation of said jazzy rhythms and cleared it up for all of us, making it easier to catch the rhythm and follow the conductor. We hope to see new challenges like this in the future again.

Our coach, Mr Loke, observing our practice.

Mr Loke notices our mistakes and steps in to correct us.

Today was rather eventful as I learnt a lot about syncopation!

I reckon Mr Loke did a splendid job in breaking down the elements of jazzy rhythm.
