18/5/19 Practice Report

Venue: Classroom C15- C17 PCGHS

Last Saturday was the first time practice for the year end concert. The song that we were processing called “For The First Time In Forever”. Everyone tried their best to learn their own part well. During section practice, every section leaders from each section and also seniors guided their section members to achieve optimum efficiency.

Members practice hard and correct the mistakes which were mentioned by the conductor.

Exam Hiatus (April-May 2019)

School Holiday Practice Announcement (March)

Time : 8.00 a.m. – 12.00 p.m.

Venue: C15 – C18

*Newbies members are only required to attend practices on Thursday from 9.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m. and Saturday from 10.00 a.m. – 12.00 p.m.

Orientation Day 2019

2th of February was our Orientation Day. The committee arrived an hour earlier to set up the games. We had loads of fun and managed to break the ice among our fellow members while playing the games that required teamwork to succeed. The Orientation Day ended successfully.

Venue: Classes C15- C18 PCGHS

Orientation Day Announcement (2019)

We will be holding an orientation day for the new participants as a welcoming into the PCGHS Harmonica Band.

Date: 2 February 2019 (Saturday)

Time: 8:30a.m. – 12:30p.m.

Venue: Classes C15 – C17 PCGHS

Attire: PJK t-shirt/Harmonica Band uniform + long pants

Gotong-Royong 2019

On the 5th of January, the harmonica band of Penang Chinese Girls’ High School has cleaned their assigned location, which was Corridor 9. We have made sure the corridors were cleaned thoroughly and that the pots nearby did not contain stagnant water. We plan to complete another cleaning activity again this year.

AGM ( Annual General Meeting)

On 5th of January 2019 (Saturday), PCGHS Harmonica Band had organized an annual general meeting (AGM) at C15. During AGM, the vice president of PCGHS Harmonica Band announced the AJK list for 2019. After that, AJKs started to discuss and planned for activities.

2018 Annual Concert (Opposites)

Time: 8:00 p.m. – 10.00 p.m.

Venue: Stage 2, PenangPAC, Straits Quay

On 28th December, 2018, the harmonica band has held a concert titled ‘Opposites’ with the theme of Eastern’s and Western’s song . This concert was a combined concert with schools Chung Ling High School, Sam Tet High School (Ipoh), Chung Ling Butterworth High School and Yu Hua High School (KL) participating. We also invited guest star Leon Yuen.We polished our pieces thoroughly extremely cautiously, making sure everyone does their part and no slacking off will take place. As a conclusion, the concert was indeed successful and exposed more Penangnites to the beauty of the harmonica. Thanks to this concert, our members have greatly improved as the pressure worked as a motivation to strive for success. We hope to be able to organise another concert similar to this and hope to continue this as a tradition.

School Concert Performance 2018

Venue: School Hall

Last Saturday, five members from the harmonica band performed at the school concert. They performed “Filled With Contentment” by a Taiwanese band called “May Day （五月天）”. We hope to work harder and perform better next year.

Arrival of the New Harmonicas

The school will be ordering new harmonicas in preparation for the preferment held anytime between August and September. The new harmonicas have 16 holes instead of 12, expanding enabling the player to play notes of a further range.
