30/6/18 Practice Report

Last Saturday was the first joint practice of seniors and juniors, which meant that the preparation for the year end concert has officially begun. With the guidance of the coach, we successfully finished half the piece named “Mayday Medley”.

Harmonica Pop Song Competition 2018

Date: 23 June 2018 (Saturday)
Time: 8:30a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Venue: Classroom C16 PCGHS

Last Saturday, the PCGHS Harmonica Band organised an intra-school harmonica pop song competition. The competition was divided into two divisions – the Senior Division and the Junior Division. The coach, Mr Loke, was the judge. The experience was fun and fruitful, and we hope to be able to organise it again next year.

Ensemble Camp 2018

Time: 9am – 3pm
Venue: Gather at Bilik Syarahan

Last Saturday, the PCGHS Harmonica Band has organised a camp to provide a chance for all of our members to work together in close proximity, which helps to strengthen the relationship between them. Moreover, team building activities can develop leadership skills in all members, as well as increase their awareness about the importance of teamwork and responsibility. On the other hand, we hope that everyone can have fun and enjoy themselves throughout the camp.

Harmonica Practical Exam 2018

Date: 9 June 2018 (Saturday)
Time: 10am – 12pm
Venue: Class C16 PCGHS

Last Saturday, the Penang Chinese Girls’ High School Harmonica Band has conducted a practical exam to examine three main components of the members’ performances: style, musicality, and piece difficulty. This exam is to be held annually for beginner members to monitor their learning progress and to observe their strong and weak points, so that the conductor could arrange members in the most suitable sections for the best orchestral effect. All members performed excellently and some even achieved a mature and coloured tone. We hope to see such a positive response again next year.

The school will hold a intra-school pop song competition and an “Ensemble!” camp.

* Committee members are required to arrive at 9am to set the venue up.

Time: 9 am – 3pm
Venue: Bilik Syarahan
Fees: RM 5 (without shirt), RM 20 (with shirt)
* Committee members are required to arrive at 8am to set the venue up.

19/5/18 Practice Report

After a month on break, the members of the PCGHS Harmonica Band is back on track and starting practice for future performances such as the school concert. We are glad the members are able to pick up the tempo immediately after such a long time on hiatus.

Practice Announcement

Penang State Competition (2018)

Last Sunday was the Penang State Harmonica Competition. We were competing against harmonica bands from schools like Chung Ling High School, Chung Ling Butterworth High School, and Heng Ee High School in categories Solo and Trio. We won 3 golds, 3 silvers, and 4 bronzes. We had a great experience and hope to join again next year.
