2017 Annual Concert (Silver Screen)

Posted on January 2, 2018

Date: 18 December 2017 (Monday)

Time: 7:30 p.m. – 9:30 p.m.

Venue: Stage 2, PenangPAC, Straits Quay

On December 18th, 2017, the harmonica band has held a concert titled ‘Silver Screen’ with the theme of movie soundtracks. This concert was a combined concert with schools Chung Ling High School, Convent Datuk Keramat High School, Sam Tet High School (Ipoh), Chong Hwa Independent High School (KL), and Yu Hua High School (KL) participating. We also invited guest stars such as Leon Yuen and The Inferno, a quintet consisting of former members of the club that has graduated late last 2016.We polished our pieces thoroughly extremely cautiously, making sure everyone does their part and no slacking off will take place. As a conclusion, the concert was indeed successful and exposed more Penangnites to the beauty of the harmonica. Thanks to this concert, our members have greatly improved as the pressure worked as a motivation to strive for success. We hope to be able to organise another concert similar to this and hope to continue this as a tradition.

4/11 Practice Report

Posted on November 4, 2017

Time: 8:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.

Date: 4/11/17

Venue: C16 PCGHS

Ah, nothing really quite beats good old practice after a couple of months of non-stop studying. Today was our first practice after a long hiatus for all members and the beginning of intensive training for our upcoming concert that is titled ‘Silver Screen’. Today we revisited an old classic called ‘Canon in D’, and learnt a new piece called ‘Try Everything that is one of the songs found on the soundtrack of the film ‘Zootopia’. This piece was especially tricky for the newer members as it incorporates a lot of syncopation as well as dotted rhythms. However, the coach swooped in and explained the foundation of said jazzy rhythms and cleared it up for all of us, making it easier to catch the rhythm and follow the conductor. We hope to see new challenges like this in the future again.

Our coach, Mr Loke, observing our practice.

Mr Loke notices our mistakes and steps in to correct us.
